Board of Corrections

The Iowa Board of Corrections serves as the governing body for the Iowa Department of Corrections. Under Iowa law, the Board is directed to:

  • Adopt and establish policies for the operation and conduct of the Department and the implementation of all Department programs.
  • Approve the budget of the Department prior to submission to the Governor.
  • Report biennially to the Governor a summary of releases recommended, paroles granted, parole revocations, and other information relating to the parole of inmates as the Board deems advisable.
  • Make recommendations from time to time to the Governor and the General Assembly.
    The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Iowa Senate. Members serve four-year terms, and not more than four of the members shall be from the same political party.
